The Street photographer of FSA. Began taking photographs in the late 1920's.
Unlike the other photographers that I have looked at Evans' images were taken on large format camera's as opposed to 35mm, this was probably because the 35mm camera wasn't yet in common use.
There is a quaintness to Evans' images, this may be because of the era in which they were taken or it may be due to the rural setting of early 20th century middle america.
There is an almost clinical feeling to these images, almost as if Evans shot these as if to show the people back in the city that: look, these places exist, there are not just fiction. Capturing every detail, like the dusty streets and dirty clothes, the signs and people, just being people. These images must have been revelatory to the people who had grown up in the city, the people who frequented art museums and galleries.
