Joel Meyerowitz is also a New York photographer and is one of the early supporters of colour photography, he even taught the first colour photography course in New York at the Cooper Union in the early 70's. He took inspiration from Robert Frank and Henri Cartier-Bresson and also worked alongside Winnogrand when out on the streets of New York.
Meyerowitz's work seems to be a lot more open than Winogrand's, he looks at the street as well as the person on it. This gives a more open and atmospheric feel to the images. That images are in colour in some cases adds something extra to the image for example on image maybe mainly yellows and beiges helping tie together elements that have sat disjointedly along side each other in a black and white image.
The inclusion of more background also seems to add a sense of scale. You can see how small people are compared to the city and their surroundings.
