Vivian Maier was not a professional photographer. She worked as a nanny for forty years. She was born (Oh yes, you know it.) in New York, but after growing up in France she moved to Chicago, which is where she mainly worked. She has a back catalogue of over 100,000 images. It was only in 2007 when here images were discovered, which was only two years before her death.
Her images are, I would say, technically perfect. The composition is pretty much perfect, the exposure is correct. The square format adds a formality to the images.
These are probably my favorite photographs that I have looked at, there is an aesthetic purity to these images that really appeals to me, they lack an artistic pretention there puts me off from a lot of photographer's work.
