The Hunterian and the V&A

These are the photographs that I took in the Hunterain museum which is situated inside the royal college of surgeons. The main purpose for visiting this visit was for Vicky to complete some first hand observational drawings of objects relating to her university work. I did really enjoy the story behind this museum. It began as the personal collection of John Hunter who founded the college. The only downside to the museum was possibly the smell of formaldehyde.

This was the skeleton of a man sentenced
to death.

These are veins preserved on wooden board.

This is the skeleton of a man known as
the Irish giant. Just for comparison my
girlfriend is 5'1".

This is a vein cast of a still born child.
This was made by injecting a resin into
the veins after drain the body of blood.
After the resin has set the body would be
dissolved in acid to just leave the cast
behind. The result is hauntingly beautiful.

The rest of the images in this post were to ones that I took in the V&A There weren't many as there were multiple instances of me being asked not to take photographs.

This is a three person Rhino costume. For a performance of the
stage show "Rhinoceros"

George Fomby's Banjolele.

This the costume worn by Adam Ant in
the video for Prince Charming.

This is the close up detail of the Gorilla shown in the las post.
It is constructed from coat hangers.
