These blessed candles of the night. ~William Shakespeare, referring to stars, Merchant of Venice
The deadline is too tight for me to do this comic book, I wrote a story but found that it was difficult for me to get all the people I would want in it together at the same time. Also the amount of post-production work required would have been immense. So I began to think about what I can do, what would interest me and what would be an interesting project to do. So I had a look back through my blog and saw my second post. Brassaï of course! Night photography!
I has always loved the dark. I much prefer the world at night. This would be my answer.
For those who don't know Brassaï is a hungarian born photographer who moved to France. He made his name with the 1933 book Paris du Nuit (Paris by Night) from which the above image are taken. I really do love these, use of fog, the contrast between the shadows and the bright electric light newly installed in Paris.
Something similar to this would be fantastic but I don't think any book make will draw as much attention as this one.
