You have been asked to take series of photographs for a motor enthusiasts magazine to be used with an article about the damage caused to the roads over the winter. You have seen the layout and know that the images must be square in format. The magazine has asked for 6 images.
You have to produce Low resolution digital files by 19/11/2010 for the magazine mock up and High-Res files (.tif format and 30dpi ready for print) must be submitted on disk before publication. Prints must also be delivered with the High-Res files these must be 8 inch square.
The Ideas from this brief stemmed from the fact that I quite liked the idea of creating something abstract with lines and blurs. After looking at the work of Andre Kertesz and Kandinsky I thought about seeing if I could combine elements from both of their work into something of my own. I decided to try this with Kertesz's use of light and shadow and Kandinsky's Geometry.

I Then Started to think about the application of this and what I could photograph so I started thinking about roads and how they can sometimes have these geometric lines mixed with corners and the patterns left by cars. This naturally lead to thinking about night time light trails that cars leave in long exposures. Enter Michael Bosanko. He is Photographer and Light Sculptor, I couldn't find out where he was based, but his working is amazing! Here is his website. http://www.michaelbosanko.com/ As well as his work with light he has done some very interesting night photographs of roads. Here are the links as his website won't let me link them. (I was going to print screen but then the quality would be dire)

Now after looking at these I thought about how yes it's impressive but it's been done. A lot! So, I decided to rather than show the presence of the cars with their light do it instead with their body work, the cars themselves. Therefore I decided to go find a medium busy bit of road in the day time and whack on a neutral density filter and capture the motion of the cars, making the cars become more abstract element than cars. I decided on Black and White to meld the cars into the road better than just they would have done in colour.
