Some of the character from the book "The Melancholy Death of Oyster Boy" |
Tim Burton. I can't help but love this. His illustrations are (dare I say it?) pure genius. Every character has their own silhouette, to match there personality. You are almost able to read the personality of the character from their appearance alone. This scratchy gothic aesthetic was the initial attraction for me. This is a style that, as Tim pointed out, is very easy to recognise. You can look at and one of these sketches and instantly see Tim Burton's style all over it. This is possibly what appeals to me about his work. I can hear about the new Burton film or animation and I'll know that there I will find some familiar features there, some of the same sensibilities, the same aesthetics. This can make us feel more comfortable whilst experiencing some new work.
